圣使徒教堂位于古市集内，坐落于卫城脚下的阿格拉东南角一个重要的十字路口，它的初建可追溯到公元10世纪。除赫菲斯托斯神庙以外，它是唯一一个未遭到大破坏的历史建筑。在拜占庭中期时代，圣使徒教堂是雅典名声第一显赫的教堂，标志着所谓“雅典式”教堂建筑的开始。
